Air Fryer Chili Garlic Tofu
Crispy, flavorful tofu with a kick, made easy in your air fryer!
Ingredients
- ⬜Extra-firm tofu(1 block (14-16 oz))
- 🌽Cornstarch(2 tbsp)
- 🧂Soy sauce(2 tbsp)
- 🌰Sesame oil(1 tbsp)
- 🌶️🧄Chili garlic sauce(1-2 tbsp (to taste))
- 🍚Rice vinegar(1 tbsp)
- 🍯Maple syrup or honey(1 tsp (optional, for sweetness))
- 🧄Garlic powder(1/2 tsp)
- 🧅Onion powder(1/2 tsp)
- 🧂Salt and pepper(to taste)
Instructions
- 1.Press the tofu: Wrap the block of tofu in a few layers of paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Place a heavy object on top (like a cast iron skillet or a few cans) and let it press for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water. This is crucial for crispy tofu!
- 2.Cut the tofu: Once pressed, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.
- 3.Coat the tofu: In a medium bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated. This will help create a crispy exterior.
- 4.Prepare the sauce: In a separate small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- 5.Air fry the tofu: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Arrange the tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd it. You may need to cook in batches.
- 6.Cook: Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket every 5-7 minutes, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy.
- 7.Toss with sauce: Once the tofu is cooked, transfer it to a clean bowl and pour the chili garlic sauce over it. Toss gently to coat all the tofu pieces.
- 8.Serve immediately: Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions, if desired. Enjoy your perfectly crispy and flavorful Air Fryer Chili Garlic Tofu!
